GutterDome vs Other Gutter Guards: How the Types Compare

How GutterDome compares with other micro-mesh guards, solid hoods, snap-in screens and foam or brush inserts, and what to ask every gutter guard installer.

5 min read

Shopping around? Here is how GutterDome, made in the USA, compares with the gutter guards other installers sell: what each one is made of, how it handles water, and what to ask before you sign.

The quick answer

How does GutterDome compare with other gutter guards?

Many of the best-regarded gutter guards use a fine stainless-steel micro-mesh, and GutterDome is one of them. Where it stands apart is everything that holds that mesh in place: the frame, the finish, the shape and the warranty behind it. And GutterDome makes its own guards, here in the USA.

  • Extruded aluminum frame: 6063-T5, clear anodized against corrosion
  • Stainless-steel micro-mesh: T304, with 400-micron openings on standard models
  • 30-year transferable warranty on the gutter protection system

How the common types of gutter guard compare

Most quotes you get will be for one of these five types. Brands differ within each type, so ask any installer which one they are quoting.

Where GutterDome is different

Most of the difference is not the mesh. It is what holds the mesh in place, how water gets through, and how the guard looks from the ground.

Structure

The frame is extruded from 6063 aluminum tempered to T5, not rolled from thin sheet or molded from plastic. It is built to hold up through hail, wind and freeze-thaw cycles, and a clear anodized finish protects it from corrosion.

Filtration

T304 surgical-grade stainless-steel micro-mesh, with 400-micron openings on the standard models. Leaves, pine needles, roof grit, seed pods and insects stay out of the gutter.

Water flow

Rain drops straight through the mesh into the gutter instead of having to follow a curved edge. For homes that see very heavy runoff or hard winters, the GutterDome Magma uses a larger mesh built for high water flow and cold climates.

Looks

A slight dome sheds debris instead of letting it settle, and the guard has a clean, seamless look from the ground that suits any roofline.

Made in the USA. GutterDome manufactures its own guards in the USA; its aluminum models are designed and built here, and protected by U.S. patents 8,495,837, 8,677,695 and 8,756,868. Specifications from GutterDome’s published product information.

How a micro-mesh guard works

Leaves land on top of the guard and blow clear. Rainwater passes straight through the mesh and runs to the downspout.

Questions to ask every gutter guard installer

Two quotes for “micro-mesh gutter guards” can describe very different products. These answers tell you what you are actually buying.

  • Which brand and model is it, by name?

  • What is the mesh made of, and how fine are the openings?
  • Does water pass straight through, or does it rely on a curved edge?
  • Will my gutters be cleared and checked before the guards go on?
  • How long is the warranty, what does it cover, and does it transfer if I sell?
  • Is the full price in writing before I commit?

Gutter guard comparison questions

I already have a quote for micro-mesh guards. How is GutterDome different?

The mesh may be similar; the frame usually is not. Many micro-mesh guards hold the mesh in a plastic or roll-formed aluminum frame. GutterDome uses a rigid extruded aluminum frame with a slight dome, and carries a 30-year transferable warranty. Bring your other quote to your free estimate and we will walk through the differences line by line.

Does GutterDome keep out insects?

Yes. On the standard models the stainless-steel micro-mesh has 400-micron openings, which GutterDome designed to keep insects out of the gutter along with leaves, pine needles, roof grit and seed pods.

Will it handle heavy rain?

Water passes straight through the mesh rather than following a curved edge, so it is not relying on surface tension in a downpour. For homes with very heavy runoff or hard winters there is GutterDome Magma, with a larger mesh made for high water flow and cold climates. We recommend the model that suits your roof at the estimate.

Is GutterDome made in the USA?

Yes. GutterDome manufactures its own micro-mesh gutter guards in the USA, and its aluminum models are designed and built here. The company is based in Lincoln, California, and the guard is protected by three U.S. patents.

Can GutterDome go on my existing gutters?

Usually, yes, provided the gutters are sound and correctly sized. We check that during the inspection, and if the gutters are the real problem we quote new seamless gutters with the guards as one system.

How does the price compare?

Every home is priced on its own, by length of gutter, roofline height and access, and the model selected. Your free estimate gives you the price, product and warranty in writing, so you can set it beside any other quote. Low monthly payment options and 0% APR available for qualified buyers.
