Plenty of older Muncie houses were built with no soffit vents at all, and sometimes nothing at the ridge either. In their day the houses were drafty enough not to need it. Decades of added insulation, sealed gaps and fresh layers of roofing have closed them in, and the attic now traps summer heat and winter moisture with nowhere to go.
