Independence
Ridge caps and seal strips in the wind
Walk an Independence subdivision after a strong storm and the evidence is usually along the top of the roof: ridge cap pieces lying in the grass, or a line of shingles near the peak flapping loose. The ridge is the highest edge of any roof, and on ground this open it catches the full gust.
Below the ridge, the damage is quieter. Each shingle is held down by a strip of adhesive that bonds it to the course beneath. Once wind has broken that bond, the shingle still lies flat on a calm day, but it lifts and creases in every storm after, until it finally tears away.
Our installations here use purpose-made ridge cap rather than pieces cut from ordinary shingles, fastened to the manufacturer’s high-wind specification, with starter strip sealed along every eave and rake. If a storm has already broken seals across your roof, we photograph it slope by slope for your insurer.
